Plum kernel oil, (INCI name: Prunus domestica seed oil) is very different from apricot kernel oil or almond oil. It has a complex and rich fragrance, a fruity top note and heart notes of almonds and marzipan. It’s an oleic oil with high emollient and moisturizing properties. Plum kernel oil is highly resistant to oxidation due to the presence of γ–tocopherol in high percentage. The oil is fluid, leaving the skin is very soft when it penetrates the skin, with no greasy residue. The kernels have an oil content of between 40 and 50 %. The plum’s origin is unknown, though it is suspected to have been brought to Europe by Alexander the Great. Today plums are widely cultivated in south-western France and Turkey.
